What mental health conditions can you treat via telehealth?

We treat mild-to-moderate anxiety (GAD, panic disorder, social anxiety), depression, seasonal affective disorder, chronic stress, burnout, postpartum depression, insomnia related to mental health, PTSD screening, and adult ADHD. Complex psychiatric conditions — such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or severe suicidality — are referred to a psychiatrist.

Can you prescribe psychiatric medications?

Yes. Board-certified FNPs in Utah have full prescriptive authority including SSRIs (sertraline, escitalopram, fluoxetine), SNRIs (duloxetine, venlafaxine), NDRIs (bupropion), buspirone, trazodone, and hydroxyzine. Controlled substances (benzodiazepines, stimulants) require additional evaluation.

Do you provide therapy or counseling?

Our visits focus on medication management and psychiatric prescribing. We do not provide ongoing psychotherapy, but we provide warm referrals to licensed therapists and counsellors in your area and can coordinate care with your existing therapist.

How does telehealth work for mental health appointments?

It works very well — research shows telehealth mental health outcomes are equivalent to in-person for most conditions. You join a HIPAA-encrypted video visit from home, discuss your symptoms and history, and receive a care plan. Many patients find it easier to open up in their own environment.

What if I need a higher level of care?

If we determine that your needs exceed what can be safely managed through telehealth — such as active suicidal ideation, psychosis, or severe bipolar disorder — we will provide an immediate warm referral to a psychiatrist, crisis centre, or emergency services and stay involved in coordinating the transition.
